How I ended up in Grand Cayman: 5 years ago I graduated college with a degree in math and a job as an actuary. I spent 3 years busting my ass working and on a well-defined linear path to "success". Two years ago I freaked out, had massive anxiety attacks on a regular basis. The summer of 2004 was hard times for me! When I just couldn't take it any more I quit my life. It felt great! I decided to travel to southeast asia because I couldn't afford hanging out in new york without a job. I ended up bouncing all over the world for a year - iceland, jordan, cambodia, dubai, greece... to name a handful. In all it was 16 countries on 4 continents. I had to get the extension pages added to my passport! I went home last October thinking it was for good. I was ready for some stability and I missed new york. So I posted my res on monster and got a call for a job in Grand Cayman of all places. With winter coming I thought, perfect! I can keep this tan I've got going! But Grand Cayman is not my kind of place - I much prefer 3rd world countries. So I'm seeing this as an extension of my vacation. If I've learned anything in the last couple of years, it's that if life pushes you in a direction there's a reason for it and you should just go with it. So I'll chill out by the pool and bike around in the warm sunhine for a couple more months. I have dreams of going around central america. i especially want to see the panama canal and machu picchu. I'm going to cyprus and greece in June and possibly Beruit. I guess I'm still living the transient lifestyle.
What else? I'm an idealist, a perfectionist, I love biking, making and eating yummy vegan food, I read a lot and I've kept journals since I was a child. This is my first blog. |
